How to clean a thick quilt that has been used for a whole winter?
Oct 29, 2023
Winter came, especially early this year, and the thick quilt is ready to be taken out to cover it. So how should I clean the thick quilt that was used all winter last year?
1. Fiber quilt
Ordinary fibers have been used for a whole winter. Even if you use a quilt cover, there will inevitably be some stains. If there are stains, they can be washed. Use neutral detergent or soap powder when washing. Use the gentle mode of the washing machine to clean, dehydrate, and dry. Shake the quilt and spread it flat to prevent the quilt core from shrinking. Functional fiber quilts generally cannot be washed. If they are soiled, it is best to clean them with mild and dry cleaning agents and dry them in the sun.
2. Cotton quilt
Cotton quilts are pure natural cotton fibers. Because they are natural fibers, cotton quilts cannot be dry-cleaned or washed, otherwise, the cotton fibers will be easily damaged. However, cotton quilts will inevitably have some special stains. But in the face of these special stains, what is the best way to wash cotton quilts? At this time, we can gently wipe the cotton quilt with soapy water, and then wash it with clean water. If there is mold in the cotton quilt, how do you wash the cotton quilt? There will definitely be alcohol in your friends’ homes. Then at this time, you only need to use a cotton swab dipped in some alcohol to wipe the moldy area, and then put the cotton quilt in a sunny place to dry.
3. Wool quilt
It is best not to wash wool quilts with water. It is recommended to dry clean if conditions permit. When drying, just leave it in the sun for half an hour. Do not expose it to the sun. You can place a piece of cloth on the quilt when drying to avoid damage to the wool fibers caused by the hot sun. Wool that has been carbonized, cleaned, and carded will not have any odor, including sheep odor. However, there will inevitably be some strange smell after being stored for a long time. You can spray alcohol evenly on the wool, sprinkle a small amount of yellow rice on the wool, and gently beat it, or use a soft brush to brush it 1-2 times. The spinal technique must be light. After the wool is dry, shake off the yellow sticky surface, then roll up the wool tightly and put some mothballs on it to suffocate for a period of time (about two months). The smell of the sheepskin will evaporate with the alcohol and camphor.
