The Four Famous Embroideries in China refer to the Suzhou embroidery, Hunan embroidery, Guangdong embroidery, and Shu embroidery among the Han embroidery in China. Embroidery, also known as needle embroidery in ancient times, is a process of using embroidery needles to guide colored threads and embroider the designed patterns on textiles, using the embroidery threads to form a pattern pattern. Embroidery, as a handicraft with a wide range of regions, has its own strengths and advantages in various countries and ethnic groups through long-term accumulation and development. In addition to the four famous embroideries of the Han ethnic group, there are also local famous embroideries in China, such as Beijing Embroidery, Lu Embroidery, Bian Embroidery, Ou Embroidery, Hangzhou Embroidery, Han Embroidery, and Min Embroidery. Minority ethnic groups in China, such as Uyghur, Yi, Dai, Buyi, Kazakh, Yao, Miao, Tujia, Jingpo, Dong, Bai, Zhuang, Mongolian, Tibetan, etc., also have their own unique ethnic embroideries.
The four famous embroideries were formed in the mid-19th century, and their emergence was not only due to their artistic characteristics, but also due to the commercialization of embroidery products. Due to differences in market demand and embroidery production areas, embroidery handicrafts as a commodity have begun to form their own local characteristics. Among them, embroidery products from the four regions of Su, Shu, Guangdong, and Hunan have a particularly wide sales and great influence, hence they are known as the "Four Famous Embroideries".
