Not all quilts can be cleaned by washing or dry cleaning. If you want to make the quilt last longer, you must choose the correct cleaning method.
- Silk Quilt: Do not wash with water or dry clean. If there are stains, wipe the dirty areas with a damp cloth.
- Wool Quilt: Do not wash with water, bleach, or iron. You can take it to a dry-cleaning shop for cleaning but avoid sun exposure.
- Down Quilt: It is generally recommended to dry clean every 3-5 years. Avoid washing with water or frequent sun exposure. Simply air it in a ventilated area for one or two hours.
- Towel Quilt: It can be washed with water, no need for dry cleaning. Use neutral laundry detergent to wash, to avoid the quilt becoming stiff.
- Cotton Quilt: Cotton quilts cannot be washed with water; the primary cleaning method is to beat the dust outdoors.
- Fiber Quilt: It can be washed with water or machine washed. Use neutral detergent or soap powder and wash in the washing machine's gentle cycle. It does not require special maintenance.
Quilt storage and maintenance
For all quilts, it is recommended that you put on quilt covers and other outer coverings so that you can clean the quilt covers and other outer coverings when washing. When storing the quilt, avoid heavy pressure on the top. Long-term heavy pressure will change the shape of the quilt, the material will become tired, the bulkiness and feel will deteriorate, and the warmth retention will be affected. When storing the quilt, you can also add some desiccant to keep the quilt dry.
Good quilts generally cost several hundred yuan, and there are even thousands of expensive quilts. To make them more cost-effective, we must find ways to extend their service life.
- Silk quilt: It is not acceptable to expose to the sun, because silk protein will deteriorate due to the influence of ultraviolet rays, making the fibers brittle and shortening the lifespan. If it is wet, just place it in a cool and well-ventilated place to dry naturally. Shake the silk quilt vigorously every week to restore the elasticity of the inner fibers of the quilt. Regularly place it in a ventilated place to blow dry, or use weak sunlight in the morning and afternoon for maintenance, which can also prolong the service life.
- Wool quilt: Dry it regularly in a shaded place at intervals of about a week. It is best to be in the shade from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and the front and back can be aired for 2 hours. Dry it in a sheltered place for 4-5 hours before storing. It can be deodorized and sterilized, and then folded after the quilt is cooled.
- Duvet: Generally, place it in a ventilated and cool place for about two weeks to dry in the shade to achieve the drying effect. Do not expose it to the sun, or cover the quilt with a sheet and then dry it. Usually, if the humidity is heavy, it can be spread on the bed and dehumidified with a dehumidifier.
- Quilts: It is often seen that someone beats the quilt with a stick hard when drying the quilt. This approach is wrong, because the cotton fiber is thick and short, easy to break, and repeated beating will reduce the thermal performance of the quilt.
- Towel quilt: Towel quilt has no special maintenance requirements, just keep it clean frequently.
